Our Mission
Education, Preservation and Advocacy
Historic Somerville was started in June of 2004 to answer a need in Somerville for an independent organization that would work in partnership with the people of Somerville, its agencies and organizations to promote an understanding and appreciation of Somerville's diverse historic resources, to provide for their protection and to underscore their relevance to modern life. |
Our Vision
We envision Somerville as a city in which each citizen values its history and heritage and is committed to preserving its historic legacy for future generations. We envision a City where new development does not always mean loss of the old, but instead complements and reinforces thriving historic neighborhoods, contributing to the health and economic prosperity of all. We imagine a diverse citizenry actively engaged in uncovering its history and in preserving the community’s cultural heritage for all to understand and enjoy.
“Historic Somerville will broaden awareness of the enormous economic impact of preservation as an essential tool for community revitalization and quality of life enhancement”
